Nahid Islam Warns of Regional Impact from West Bengal Polls

NEWS DESK: National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam stated that the recent West Bengal election results could affect Bangladesh. He spoke at a party event in Chittagong on Thursday. He urged the country to act responsibly and protect the rights of all religious communities.

Nahid described West Bengal as an important neighbor. Although the election is India’s internal matter, he expressed concern over the loss of voting rights for many people. He claimed that voters from Muslim and Matua communities were stripped of their citizenship before the polls.

The NCP leader alleged that minorities have faced continued persecution after the election. He warned that these developments could have regional consequences. He urged people to stay alert against propaganda and communal narratives spread by anti-Bangladesh forces.

He said Bangladesh must set an example for South Asia by protecting its own minorities. He called for unity within the NCP to tackle national crises and reforms. He also asked members to work together based on merit.

Finally, Nahid raised concerns about a rising measles outbreak in the country. He urged the government to improve healthcare services to prevent child deaths from the disease. Source: Dhaka Tribune.
