Govt Approves Tk 122 Crore for 163 New RAB Vehicles

NEWS DESK: The government has approved a proposal to buy 163 vehicles for the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to improve its operational strength. The purchase will cost Tk 122.27 crore.

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase gave the approval in a meeting today. Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury chaired the session at the Secretariat where the Ministry of Home Affairs placed the proposal.

Under this plan, the government will buy 3 SUVs, 100 patrol pickups, and 60 air-conditioned microbuses. State-owned Pragoti Industries Limited will supply the vehicles through a direct purchase method.

Home ministry records show that each SUV might cost around Tk 1.5 crore. The patrol pickups are priced at Tk 64 lakh each, while the microbuses cost about Tk 48 lakh each.

The project was first started in 2018 during the tenure of the previous government. It was later revised to a total cost of Tk 827 crore, and its timeline was extended until 2026.

So far, 809 vehicles have been bought under this initiative. The current expenditure will be covered under the budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year to ensure the force has enough transport for its duties.
